We are in contact with a branch of the Maenhout Family thanks to this article and picture. A man named Roger Belaen thought the woman in the photo (Irma Maenhout-Clark) looked like his Grandmother. Turns out Irma and Roger's Grandmother were Cousins. Roger has shared pictures and information on the Maenhout family with us.

Tielt / Meulebeke Lenny De Vos helps Americans with family tree research
Who knows Irma Maenhout?
American James Clark asked Lenny De Vos from Tielt for help to know more about his ancestors, who moved from Meulebeke to the States in the years following 1900. Lenny would like to help the man, but is stuck in a dead end.

Lenny De Vos (28) lives in the Volderstraat in Tielt and is a computer teacher at the Stedelijke Leergangen in Izegem. She’s bitten by the computer virus. She has two websites.
"One of the websites is mainly about the house that I’m building with my boyfriend in Beringen, Limburg. The second site, www.lennydevos.be, is bilingual Dutch – English and amongst other things contains a little corner about Meulebeke, where I was born and where a large part of my family lives. I’ve already received several responses to that little piece about Meulebeke from Americans whose ancestors came from Meulebeke or the surrounding area", says Lenny.
A few weeks ago she received another message from a certain James Clark from St. Louis, Missouri. "Jim would like to assemble his family tree, but is stuck in a dead end. His ancestors are emigrants who came from Meleubeke but he doesn’t speak Dutch himself. That’s why he asked for my help."
Clark is an "americanized" version of De Klerk. James grandparents were Edmund De Klerk and Irma Maenhout. Edmund was born on 29 June 1882 and Irma on 5 January 1893 as a daughter of Victor Maenhout and Marie Lapeire. Marie was the daughter of Charles Lapeire and Rosalie Ferdlea.
"James’ greatgrandfather Victor Maenhout left on 13 February 1904 on the SS Zeeland from Antwerp to New York. His wife Marie Lapeire followed him 3 years later with their 4 children on the SS Kroonland. One of those children, daughter Irma Maenhout, later on married Edmund De Klerk. We don’t know much about him. It is rumoured that he was married before in Belgium, but left his family to emigrate to The States, where he met Irma. They had 10 children, of whom Emil Clark, who is James’ father", says Lenny.
Lenny is requesting the help of our readers to know more about James Clark’s ancestors.
